Located at the northern end of the Greater Washington Area, Maryland's Kensington offers a pleasing combination of life in the urban sprawl of the nation's capital and excellent access to beautiful natural preserves.

While Kensington has easy access to the entire metro area via the metro subway system, you can easily lose yourself in the natural beauty of Maryland. There is hiking, hunting, and horseback riding in Patuxent River or Seneca State Parks (Seneca also features a restored 19th-century cabin with self-guided interpretative tours). Nature buffs will enjoy the Dierssen WMA waterfowl sanctuary, and its immaculate photo opportunities. The crown jewel, however, has to be Rock Creek National Park, where you can step back in time while hiking along Piscataway Indian trails.

Of course, the 1,873 citizens of Kensington don't spend all their time communing with nature. Town-sponsored community events – such as the Labor Day parade, Town Picnic, and an 8K race – mean there are plenty of opportunities to commune with each other!
