Kettering, Ohio

The city of Kettering is located in southwestern Ohio, just five miles (eight kilometers) south of Dayton. It is part of Montgomery County, and has a population of 57,502.

The community was named after inventor Charles Kettering, whose discoveries paved the way for the electric starter. The Kettering-Moraine Museum and Historical Society preserves the barn where Kettering's conducted his experiments, and also exhibits Shaker crafts, Wright Brothers furniture, and other artifacts related to the history of Kettering and Dayton.

The artistically-inclined will want visit the Rosewood Arts Center, which offers gallery exhibits, classes, theater performances, and various special events. You can admire public art at various sites throughout the city, and view or purchase fine arts and crafts during the annual Art on the Commons. For some live entertainment, check out the many summertime performances at Fraze Pavilion or the latest production by the Kettering Children's Theatre.

Kettering offers great fitness facilities for all ages, so there's no excuse for lazing on the sofa. The Kettering Recreation Complex houses a swimming pool, multipurpose gym, ice arena, fitness centers, a track, and the Lathrem Senior Center – and there's even a spa should you need some post-workout pampering. Other recreational venues include the Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center, the Skate Plaza, and Hills and Dales MetroPark.
