King of Prussia, Pennsylvania

King of Prussia may seem like a strange name for a city, and in fact it is not a city. Though the community has been thriving since the early days of George Washington, it has never been incorporated, thus remaining without an official government, relinquishing administrative duties to Upper Merion Township. Untarnished by the hammer of bureaucracy, the area has enjoyed a deliciously carefree atmosphere ever since adopting its name from the local prosperous inn and tavern. Today, though the inn houses the Schuylkill Alliance Chamber of Commerce, travelers still flock to the town, attracted by its local treasures.

The King of Prussia Mall is the second largest mall in the United States, and has the largest retail space in the country. An amalgamation of two adjacent malls, Plaza at King of Prussia and Court at King of Prussia, the mall is a hotspot for fashion and luxury, featuring such stores Versace, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Tiffany and Co., Bloomingdale's, and Nordstrom. For the truly kingly (or queenly), the mall offers valet parking.

The town also features natural riches. On its north side runs the Schuylkill River, winding down from the Appalachian Mountains right into the heart of Philadelphia. Originally named Ganshohawanee by the Delaware Indians, its name meant "rushing and roaring waters," and indeed the tumults history of early America runs through its waters. It was along its banks that the Patriots first began to proclaim their independence from the largest Empire in the world. In the winter 1777–1778, the American Continental Army, led by George Washington, rested near the Schuylkill River at Valley Forge, just a mile west of King of Prussia. It was at this historical site that the army became a leaner, more disciplined, and ultimately victorious body. After the Revolution, the river was a vital commercial artery, turning the area into one the greatest industrial regions in the world. To this day, Schuylkill River continues to play an integral part of the surrounding community, not only by providing much of the drinking water, but also being a site of artistic, cultural, and natural activities year round.

But everyone knows that the greatest treasures are the friends you have. (Besides, who else will ask you if that's a new Cartier around your arm?) Joining the King of Prussia Ski Club is a wonderful way of making friends. Don't be fooled by the name, because the club organizes various activates year-round, such as weekly bike rides along the Valley Forge Park, romantic moonlight kayaking every month, and the ever-popular Happy Hour every Friday!

The kingdom of Prussia may have long disappeared, but it doesn't mean the fun have to end!
