Kinston, North Carolina

The city of Kinston is the county seat of Lenoir County, North Carolina. Kinston is located approximately 78 miles (126 kilometers) southeast of the state capital, Raleigh, and 69 miles (111 kilometers) northwest of Morehead City and the Atlantic Coast.

Kinston offers residents an historic downtown, a dedicated arts community and, for the sports enthusiasts, minor league baseball.

The Community Council for the Arts offers classes and presents exhibits in downtown Kinston. Music and live theater are available at the The Grainger-Hill Performing Arts Center, which is housed in a beautiful neoclassical building that dates from 1925. The center has a seating capacity of 1,131 and is considered "the region's premier palace for theatrical performances."

The community is the home of the Kinston Winter Bluegrass Festival, which it hosts in conjunction with its arts council and Lenoir Community College. And each spring, Kinston is the site of the Lenoir County Fair.

Outdoor recreation is available at the Neuseway Nature Center. The center is has three aquariums, as well as nature trails, fish ponds, and facilities for camping and picnicking. And the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is also located nearby. The park not only has camping facilities, but it also has hiking trails that run along the spectacular cliffs overlooking the Neuse River.
