The city of Klamath Falls is located in south central Oregon, near the California border, 79 miles (127 kilometer) west of Medford and 172 miles (277 kilometers) southeast of Eugene. It is the county seat of Klamath County, and home to 19,462 people. Located on the southern tip of Klamath Lake and nestled at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Klamath Falls is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. A drive along part of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway is a great way of familiarizing yourself with the lay of the land. This 500-mile (805-kilometer) route starts at the beautiful Crater Lake National Park, and ends at Lake Almanor in California. Along the way, you'll see majestic mountain peaks, ancient lava beds, and a diverse array of wildlife. Crater Lake is the area's best-known natural attraction, and the only national park in Oregon. During the summer, visitors can enjoy boating and hiking, or simply admire the park's breathtaking scenery. In the winter, the area receives an average of 533 inches (14 meters) of snow, making it an ideal site for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and many other pursuits. Other regional parks include the picturesque Jackson F. Kimball State Recreation Site and the spectacular Lava Beds National Monument in California. Also be sure to visit the Klamath Basin Wildlife Refuge, a series of six wildlife areas that protect hundreds of animal and bird species, and is also one of the largest wintering ground for bald eagles in the US. And the area is surrounded by Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests, Fremont-Winema National Forests, Modoc National Forest, and Klamath National Forest. Closer to home, you can enjoy white-water rafting on the Klamath River, camp at the Collier Memorial State Park, or explore the OC&E Woods Line State Trail. For a change of pace, head to the Klamath Sportsman's Park, which offers a 4x4 drag strip, ATV course, shooting range, archery area, and more. In addition to all this natural beauty, Klamath Falls also offers some great cultural attractions. The Favell Museum houses more than 60,000 arrowheads, along with many other Native artifacts and Western art. Other area museums include the Baldwin Museum, the Klamath County Museum, and the Fort Klamath Museum. Looking for a night on the town?
