You have probably eaten the sweet dessert Kentucky pie – with cream cheese, chocolate, whipped cream, and bourbon. Living in its namesake state can be just as sweet. Home to the famous Kentucky Derby and known as the Bluegrass State, because of its native light-green grass that gives the fields a rich blue hue. Horses can be found munching on the bluegrass in fields everywhere. The state is full of them – ranches, stables, and even a theme park dedicated to horses and a horse festival. The state contains 49 parks and one interstate park along with facilities for golf, camping, and recreational sports. You can get out in the parkland when you are not out in the horse land! Filled with historical buildings, you can take walking tours through old towns and areas of the cities. In Georgetown alone, there are more than 300 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places! Kentucky feels like old-fashioned living in these neighborhoods. Cities like Louisville contain lots of things to do and see – museums, recreation parks, the opera, theatre, sports … you will always have somewhere to go. Famous Kentuckians include Muhammad Ali, Rosemary Clooney, Crystal Gayle, Abraham Lincoln, and Hunter Thompson. If you are looking for that relaxed lifestyle, sit back with a glass of whiskey under a tulip tree and watch the stars come up over the acres of pasture. Or head off to the races for a day with your friends. And know that you will have good clean country air to breathe in year-round.
