Lafayette, Colorado

The city of Lafayette, Colorado, is located in Boulder County, in the Boulder metropolitan area, approximately 23 miles (37 kilometers) north of Denver.

Lafayette is named after Lafayette Miller, a settler whose wife purchased lands in 1888, which then became the basis for the city. The community offers residents a hometown feel, and panoramic views of the nearby Rocky Mountains.

A number of community festivals are held in Lafayette throughout the year, and among the more popular are the Lafayette Wine Festival, the Lafayette Peach Festival with Art & Antiques, and the Lafayette Oatmeal Festival.

The Theater Company of Lafayette, a non-profit organization founded in 1996, offers a season of plays, while the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts offers classes, recitals, and performances by guest artists.

Outdoor recreation, however, is Colorado's forte, and Lafayette is conveniently located near the best in the state. Next door, the city of Boulder has been rated "#1 Sports Town in America," by Outside magazine, and has miles of public hiking and bicycling trails. And both Eldora Mountain Resort and Rocky Mountain National Park are within an hour's drive of Lafayette.
