Layton, Utah

Layton City is located in northern Utah, 14 miles (23 kilometers) south of Ogden and 23 miles (37 kilometers) north of Salt Lake City. It is part of Davis County, and is home to 58,474 residents.

Want to brush up on your local history? Then head for the Heritage Museum of Layton, which contains more than 2,000 artifacts, 1,900 documents, and 3,000 photographs. Most of the material dates from the turn-of-the-century, when Layton was a rural, agricultural community.

The Hill Air Force Base is located just outside of the city, and its Hill Aerospace Museum is an exciting attraction for all ages. More than 70 military aircrafts are on display, including an SR-71 "blackbird" spy plane, missiles, and aerospace vehicles. The Speed Street Indoor Raceway is another thrilling attraction, and offers go-kart racing for those aged 14 and up. The Davis County Events Center is located seven miles (11 kilometers) south of Layton, and hosts the County Fair each August and horse shows throughout the year. Looking for some great entertainment? The Davis Arts Council offers organizes a diverse array of events, including concerts, plays, and visual arts exhibits.

For a day of outdoor fun, drive up to Great Salt Lake to enjoy water sports, fishing, swimming, and hiking. Antelope Island State Park is the largest island on Great Salt Lake, and home to roaming bison, as well as pronghorn and bighorn sheep. In addition to wildlife watching, the island is an excellent spot for kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Looking for some downhill action? Then head to Snowbasin, the world-class ski resort that hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
