Lee's Summit, Missouri

Lee's Summit is a city in northwestern Missouri, near the Kansas state border. It is 14 miles (23 kilometers) south of Independence, 19 miles (31 kilometers) southeast of Kansas City, and 128 miles (206 kilometers) northwest of Jefferson City. Lee's Summit is part of Jackson County, and is home to 70,700 residents.

Longview Mansion and Farm is one of the area's most beautiful and popular historic sites. The 1914 mansion was built for equestrian Loula Long Combs, and the site also includes 50 other structures, and even the graves of some prizewinning horses. You can also visit the 1905 Historic Depot, or drive out to the Battle of Lone Jack Site and Museum to learn about the Civil War battle that took place 10 minutes east of the city.

Looking for a treat for the kids? Paradise Park offers a rock climbing wall, go-carts, miniature golf, batting cages, and more to entertain the young and young at heart. Looking to treat yourself? The Stonehaus Farms Vineyard and Winery is located just outside of the city, and offers fine local vintages for you to enjoy. For some evening entertainment, attend a concert by the Lee's Summit Symphony Orchestra.

Local residents have access to three city golf courses and 31 county parks. Powell Gardens is a botanical garden with a stunning variety of plants and changing seasonal displays, and is just 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Lee's Summit. Fleming Park is one of the region's top natural attractions, and draws 1.3 million visitors a year. Here you can boat, fish, and swim on Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo, or enjoy hiking, camping, wildlife-watching, and other outdoor activities. Missouri Town 1855 is located nearby, and offers a unique look at life in a 19th century farming community. Here you can explore 25 historic buildings, talk to costumed interpreters, and even see some rare breeds of crops and livestock.
