Loxahatchee, which is part of Palm Beach County, can probably be considered the suburb of a suburb. Technically part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area, it's still almost 80 miles to downtown Miami, and is basically on its outskirts. It has a rural setting, and a small town lifestyle, including unpaved roads, rolling farmland, and plant nurseries.

If you love nature, you'll love Loxahatchee – the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, with its walking and biking trails, canoe trail, boat ramps, fishing platform, butterfly garden, and visitor center is a short drive away. If you love water sports, you'll also like the fact that you're only a short 17-mile (27-kilometer) drive to the Gold Coast and under 30 miles (48 kilometers) to Lake Okeechobee.
