Lumberton, North Carolina

The city of Lumberton is located in southern North Carolina, 35 miles (56 kilometers) south of Fayetteville, 95 miles (153 kilometers) southwest of Raleigh, and 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Myrtle Beach. It is the county seat of Robeson County, and has a population of 20,795.

The community was named after the Lumber River, and settlement began on a large plantation owned by General John Willis. The Robeson County Showcase Museum chronicles the region's past, and features an eclectic collection of artifacts and wildlife displays. Other historic sites include the 1928 Carolina Civic Center and the Proctor Law Building, Lumberton's oldest surviving building.

Lumberton offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and other amenities to meet all of your needs. Exploration Station is Lumberton's "hands-on learning center," and promises hours of fun for visitors of all ages. Britt Park is another great family destination, and offers swimming, boating, fishing, and lakeside picnic areas. Golfers will love the 18-hole Championship course at the PineCrest Country Club, and can also tee off at five other nearby courses. For a great evening's entertainment, check out the monthly bluegrass concert at Robeson Community College, or drive to Pembroke to enjoy a performance at the Givens Performing Arts Center.
