Macon, Georgia

The city of Macon is located in central Georgia, 84 miles (135 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta. It is the county seat of Bibb County, and home to 97,255 people.

The area around Macon has been inhabited for more than 12,000 years, and groups ranging from Ice Age tribes to the Muscogee native Americans have left their mark on the land. The Ocmulgee National Monument was established to preserve the region's rich history, and offers interpretive programs along with opportunities for fishing, hiking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing.
