Located 45 kilometers (27 miles) east of Vancouver, this town of Unknown is blessed by a mild climate and fertile soils that make it an agricultural breadbasket. Maple Ridge, with its surrounding landscape dotted by horse farms, is considered the horse capital of British Columbia. The best horseback riding trails are found along the town's extensive dike system, which was built by the area's Dutch settlers to protect their farms from the flooding of the Fraser River. Golden Ears Provincial Park is another favorite place for hiking and riding. Marked by waterfalls and mountain views, the park's trails feature a rich variety of wildlife and many beautiful picnicking spots. The area is also home to Grant Narrows Regional Park, a wilderness getaway that houses unique bird, fish, and animal species in its protected wetlands.

Maple Ridge was one of the first communities to incorporate in British Columbia back in the mid-1800s, and it is said that the first meeting to set up the town was held under a maple tree. With a rich history, Maple Ridge continues to develop as people look for an alternative to the busy lifestyle of nearby Vancouver. A new project will add even more dynamism to the town – with a major new community and recreation center, a performing arts complex, a library, a hotel, and offices, the Maple Ridge Town Centre will be the town's focal point.
