Marshalltown, Iowa

Marshalltown is located in central Iowa, 52 miles (84 kilometers) northeast of Des Moines. It is the county seat of Marshall County, and home to 26,009 residents.

The Marshall County Historical Museum features a large collection of artifacts, and is an excellent place to start your exploration of the city's past. Marshalltown also offers a number of historic buildings, including the Marshall County Courthouse, Glick-Sower Heritage Homestead, and the Matthew Edel Blacksmith Shop.

Unique modern-day attractions include the Marshalltown Speedway, Appleberry Farm, and the Big Treehouse, a 12-level structure that has been a Lincoln Highway landmark since 1925.

Fans of the visual arts will find an excellent collection of paintings, ceramics, and sculptures at the Fisher Community Center Art Gallery. Fine works from regional artists can be seen in a number of other galleries found across the city, and the works produced by Marshalltown Community College's students are displayed at the Ray Frederick Art Gallery. On the performing arts front, fantastic concerts are provided by the Marshalltown Community Concert Association and Municipal Band, while the Marshalltown Community Theatre provides residents with great live entertainment.

To get in touch with nature, visit the 160-acre (65-hectare) Grimes Farm & Conservation Center, which offers an interpretive center and nature trails that winding through a variety of habitats.
