The city of Massillon is located in northern Ohio's Stark County, eight miles (13 kilometers) west of Canton, 21 miles (34 kilometers) south of Akron, and 54 miles (87 kilometers) south of Cleveland. Massillon is on the Tuscarawas River, and prospered in the 1800s with the arrival of the Erie Canal and the railroad. Today, the Ohio & Erie Canalway is an excellent place for hiking and cycling, and you can also boat along the river and enjoy a waterside picnic. The Massillon Museum is an art and history museum with more than 100,000 artifacts, and exhibits are constantly being rotated so that different items from the collection will have their chance in the spotlight. Other heritage attractions include the Ohio Military Museum, the Five Oaks Historic Home, and the Spring Hill Historic Home, which served as a stop along the Underground Railroad. The legendary Tigers high school football team is probably Massillon's most famous attraction. In fact, football is so ingrained in local culture that baby boys born at the Massillon hospital are given a miniature football at birth! And although the city only has a population of 31,325, its Paul Brown stadium can accommodate 20,000 spectators! For those of you who don't already know, Massillon local Paul Brown (1908–1991) was an extraordinary football coach and a key player in the development of the NFL. Want to learn more about your new hometown team? Then rent the 2001 documentary Go Tigers!, a behind-the-scenes chronicle of what makes a famous team. Once you've had your fill of football, check out the other options offered by Massillon Parks and Recreation, such as basketball, soccer, softball, disc golf, and inline hockey. For golf enthusiasts, there's the 18-hole Rolling Green Golf Course and the spectacular 27-hole Legends of Massillon. See our 5 Jobs in Massillon, Ohio Websites for this CityGovernment:
