What do President George W. Bush and the world's largest toffee (at 2,940 pounds) have in common? Well, they are both associated with Midland – Bush grew up here and the toffee was made here – a city of 94,996, not known for doing anything by small measures!

Located between El Paso (300 miles/186 kilometers west) and Austin (315 miles/195 kilometers southeast), the city of Midland has lots of interesting attractions, such as The Museum of the Southwest, which houses permanent exhibits by John James Audubon and Karl Bodmer as well as varied temporary exhibits. Midland is also the home of the American Airpower Heritage Museum, and, with its collection of Second World War fighter planes, it's a must for all aviation history buffs – as is the annual Fina-Caf Airsho in October!

Midland also has numerous parks and an Olympic swimming pool – the City of Midland Aquatics, which offers swimmers of all fitness levels a chance to participate in activities, such as water therapy, water aerobics, and scuba training.

After a long day in this Southern town, don't forget to wind down with some nice classical music, and what better place to do it than at the Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale. With more than 50 concerts a season, there's bound to be one or two you can catch.

So whether or not Midland is fit for a king is for you to decide; it's certainly fit for a President.
