Minot, North Dakota

The city of Minot (pronounced "my-not") is located in northern North Dakota, 110 miles (177 kilometers) northwest of Bismarck. It is the county seat of Ward County, and home to 36,567 residents.

To brush up on your local history, pay a visit to the Ward County Historical Society Museum. Here you'll see vintage automobiles, thousands of artifacts, and a fine collection of restored buildings ranging from a log cabin to the county's first courthouse. The railroad played a pivotal role in shaping Minot, and 100 years of rail history is celebrated at the Minot Railroad Museum and the Old Soo Depot Transportation Museum. Other heritage attractions include the 150 early buildings found in the Eastwood Park National Historic District, Scandinavian Heritage Park, and the Dakota Territory Air Museum.

Have kids to entertain? Minot's attractions can keep the little ones busy all year long! The Roosevelt Park Zoo is home to more than 200 animals, including exotic species like lions, leopards, bears, and kangaroos. On the weekend, try a trip to Valleyview Falls Mini-Golf and Go-Carts or jump aboard the many rides at Lucy's Amusement Park. In the summer, Splashdown Dakota Super Slides (at Sleep Inn & Suites) is the perfect way of beating the heat, and features waterslides, pools, and a clover leaf-shaped hot tub that seats 45 people.

Minot's vibrant arts community is made up of 40 organizations, including the Taube Museum of Art, a symphony orchestra, an opera company, theater groups, and dance companies.

The city is situated in the middle of five national wildlife refuges, making it a haven for birds and bird watchers.
