Moberly, Missouri

The city of Moberly is located in northern Missouri, 66 miles (106 kilometers) northwest of Jefferson City, 158 miles (254 kilometers) northwest of St. Louis, and 162 miles (260 kilometers) northeast of Kansas City. It is part of Randolph County, and has a population of 11,945.

Moberly was founded as a railroad town in 1866, and the trains are still running through the city today. The community was named after railway official Colonel W.E. Moberly, and the city's explosive growth soon earned it the nickname of "The Magic City." Moberly's economy also benefited from coalmining, and now has a diversified industrial and retail base. Other heritage sites include the 1872 Burkholder-O'Keefe house and the 1883 H.P. Jennings home. A driving tour of the statues in Rothwell Park and Oakland Cemetery is also recommended.
