Nashua, New Hampshire

Nashua is located in southern New Hampshire, 19 miles (31 kilometers) south of Manchester and 46 miles (74 kilometers) northwest of Boston. It is the county seat of Hillsborough County, and the second-largest city in the state, with a population of 86,605.

Nashua offers many historic sites and attractions. Former president John F. Kennedy gave his first campaign speech here in 1960, and the occasion is commemorated with a bronze sculpture. Visitors should also stop by the Abbot-Spalding House Museum, a beautiful Victorian mansion that houses many artifacts related to Nashua and the Merrimack region. Other attractions in the area include the many heritage buildings in Nashua's Historic District, quaint covered bridges, and the Robert Frost Farm located in Derry.

For some outdoor fun, try kayaking up one of the local rivers, hiking or mountain biking in Mines Falls Park, or enjoy wildlife viewing at the Ponemah Bog Sanctuary. Silver Lake State Park is one of the most popular natural areas in the region, and features a 34-acre (14-hectare) lake, along with a 1,000-foot (305-meter) beach. Boating, swimming, and picnicking are just a few of the activities you can enjoy at this park. Every year, local residents are treated to the amazing sight of salmons swimming upstream as they prepare to spawn, and can learn more about this remarkable fish year-round at the Nashua National Fish Hatchery.

Fans of the performing arts have access to the Rivier Theatre Company, the Northern Ballet Theatre, and the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, the oldest and largest professional symphony association in the state. For more cultural attractions, remember that Nashua is just a 30-minute drive away from Manchester, and an hour's drive from Boston. Need one last incentive? All of New Hampshire offers tax-free shopping, and Nashua has many boutiques, stores, and a large mall to satisfy your every need and whim.

Offering history, great shopping, and easy access to the scenic beauty of New England, Nashua is a great place to call home!
