North East, Pennsylvania

The borough of North East is situated in northeastern Pennsylvania, on the shore of Lake Erie. It is located 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Erie and 80 miles (129 kilometers) southwest of Buffalo, New York. North East is part of Erie County. The current population of North East is 4,601.

North East is best know for its fine grapes and six area wineries, each of which offers tours and products for sale. There's also the annual Wine Country Harvest Festival, which offers a champagne breakfast, wine and food seminars, tasting sessions, and more. For a journey to the past, head to the Hornby School to relive life in 1875, or the Lakeshore Railway Museum, where you'll see a number of locomotives, antique train cars, and extensive displays of railway memorabilia. Looking for a great show? Head to the North East Cultural Center, which offers performing and visual arts programs year-round, or enjoy the many cultural attractions available in nearby Erie.

Given its great location on Lake Erie, there's lots of watery fun to be had in North East. Fishing, swimming, and boating are all popular pursuits, and the North East Marina offers 220 docking slips and a variety of services. For more summertime recreation, visit Presque Isle State Park, the most extensive network of wetlands in Pennsylvania. In the winter, ski enthusiasts have easy access to the Cockaigne Ski Area and Peek 'N Peak Resort in New York State.
