I love New York! This state of 19,190,115 people is the third-most populated state in America. The early immigrants' first experience of America was Ellis Island, and people still flock here – and to New York City. The immigrants keep on coming, making New York home to people from a thrilling mosaic of cultures and ethnic backgrounds – which also means a glorious range of cuisines to enjoy. New York is also a paradise for sports fans. Since it is home to professional sports teams such as the Bills, Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Dragons, Giants, Islanders, Knicks, Liberty, Destroyers, and Sabres, you will have plenty of teams to cheer for (in all 4 seasons). Major cities include New York, Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, Syracuse, Albany, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Schenectady, and Utica. The many small towns and farms throughout New York State provide balance to the fast-paced lifestyles of the cities in this 54,475-square-mile (141,090-square-kilometer) state. The state boasts more than 100 state parks, 35 state historic sites, 76 developed beaches, 27 golf courses, 18 nature centers and 1,350 miles (2,173 kilometers) of trails. State parks and historic sites encompass nearly 300,000 acres (121,405 hectares)! Some of the world's best museums are housed in New York City: the Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), the Guggenheim Museum, the Cloisters (one of my personal favorites!), and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery … to name a few. Want to have some more lively arts experiences? Who can resist taking in the theatre scene on Broadway, or off-Broadway, or off-off-Broadway. Even those not a mere subway ride away in one of the five boroughs can hop a train down to Penn or Grand Central Station and treat themselves to a great weekend in the big city, with or without the kids. If you have children who are not as yet into the arts scene, take them to enjoy the great outdoors – which we sometimes forget New York has – at one of 168 state parks or numerous national parks/historic sites, or 76 developed beaches. Head off to the Catskills to ski, camp, hike, or golf. Or take them to famous Coney Island for a fun-filled and (delicious) junk-food-filled day. Want to join in? Move to New York and make your mark!
