When I think of California, I think of glitz, glamour, and beautiful weather. But even if you're not interested in a cosmopolitan city, you can still enjoy beautiful weather in Oceanside (the northernmost coastal city in San Diego County), which is located only 39 miles (63 kilometers) north of San Diego and 88 miles (141 kilometers) south of Los Angeles. And with a name like Oceanside, you can be sure there will be miles of surrounding beaches to play on and plenty of crystal clear waters to play in.

Locals take advantage of the warm and sunny weather by strolling, jogging, or biking along the beachfronts and parks. Harbor Beach, the city's largest, offers acres of pristine sand for sunning or sandcastle building. If you'd rather play in the water, grab your board, and hit the waves. And, if you're confident, you can "hang ten" with the best of them and show off your talent at one of the many international surfing competitions hosted by the city. On the other hand, if you'd rather get your surf thrills on dry land, head to the entertaining and educational California Surf Museum.

But Oceanside isn't just about its beautiful beaches. If you love antiquing, then you have to do Oceanside's Antique Loop – just be sure to enjoy an old-fashioned sundae while you're at it! If you appreciate architecture, take a stroll along the streets of the Secret Neighborhood – these elegant Victorian, Early American, and Spanish style homes are surrounded with white picket fences and beautiful gardens. Another example of classic architecture can be seen at Robert's Cottages. These salmon-colored houses, with bright multicolored roofs, are a unique local landmark. And if you enjoy history, visit the first General Store and Blacksmith Shop and Livery Stable at the Heritage Park Village and Museum centers.
