When people think of the State of Oklahoma, the musical often comes to mind. It's "where the wind comes sweeping down the plain," and "where the waving wheat can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain." And there's truth in the song: One of Oklahoma's major industries is agriculture, ranking fourth in the USA in the production of wheat, fourth in cattle and calf production, fifth in pecan production, sixth in peanuts and eighth in peaches. Other main industries are petroleum, tourism, and mining. But it is not all plains – the second-most populous city (after the capital, Oklahoma City), Tulsa, lies in the hilly, wooded area of the northeast. There are lakes and parkland in the south and forests cover approximately 24% of the state. And flat Oklahoma has four mountain ranges. There are also three National Parks in the state and many opportunities for camping, hiking, golfing, cycling, hunting, and fishing. A brief list of a few famous Oklahomans (and Oklaho-women!) would include: Gene Autry, Garth Brooks, Anita Bryant, Joan Crawford, Vince Gill, Woody Guthrie, and Alfre Woodard. And if you want to live in Oklahoma, what's the weather like? It has long, hot, and rather humid summers and mild winters. The state population is about 3,511,532, and its cities are often described as relaxed, friendly, and not crowded. Some Oklahoma firsts include the invention of the aerosol can, the shopping cart, and the parking meter. And its state capitol building is the only one in the world with an oil well under it.
