The city of Overland Park was founded in 1905, and is the second-largest city in Kansas and one of the fastest growing cities in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The city is home to a number of corporate head offices, including Sprint, so its daytime population is almost double its resident population of 149,080. Local attractions in Overland Park include the New Theatre Restaurant and the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. The latter is a conservatory and educational center that stretches over 300 acres (121 hectares) of parkland just outside of the city. And three state parks are also nearby for outdoor recreation. Clinton State Park, Perry State Park, and Hillsdale State Park are all within a short drive of the city and can boast a wide range of activities such as camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, or hunting. And with the Kansas City downtown a mere 14 miles (23 kilometers) away, everything the larger city has to offer is also available to Overland Park residents.
