Owensboro, Kentucky

Owensboro, located in northwestern Kentucky, was settled in the late 1700s, and is the county seat of Daviess County. The community is located along southern bank of the Ohio River (which marks the border with Indiana), and you can cross into Indiana via the new (2002) William H. Natcher Bridge, which at the time of its construction was the longest cable stayed bridge over an inland waterway in the United States.

So why should you choose to come to Owensboro? Simple! Why would you look any further for a hometown than the "Barbecue Capital of the World"? The city is not only a place where you can learn the latest tasty techniques from your expert neighbors, but it's where you can attend the International Bar-B-Q Festival, where teams compete for best chicken, mutton, and burgoo titles. (In case you've never heard of it, burgoo is a savory meat and vegetable stew.)

People with an interest in music will also love Owensboro. In the summer, the community hosts the Friday After 5 music festival along the riverfront. The city's RiverPark Center, a performing arts and civic center, not only has a 1,500-seat auditorium, an experimental theatre, a riverfront plaza, and an open-air courtyard, it's also home to the The International Bluegrass Music Museum. And if classical music is your thing, you can attend performances of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. (You can also indulge your love of the arts at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art and the Theatre Workshop of Owensboro.)

Owensboro has plenty of parks and recreational facilities for you to get out and active, including an ice arena, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, playing fields, and swimming pools. There are two nearby county parks, Yellow Creek and Panther Creek, to enjoy, as well as Ben Hawes State Park. And when you want spend some quiet time with the natural world, head to the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden.

And if you have kids, they'll enjoy trips to locations like the Owensboro Museum of Science & History, and to events like the annual county fair, the PumpkinFest, the Owensboro-Daviess County Motorsports Festival, and the Christmas parade.

Great barbecue and year-round family fun! Make Owensboro your new hometown!
