Some say it is the friendliest province in Canada. This small east-coast island is nestled in the Atlantic, in the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. The capital city, Charlottetown, is home to the world-renowned Charlottetown Festival's play Anne of Green Gables. Indeed, tourists, who "come from away," flock to see Green Gables itself.

With celebrities such as country music star Stompin' Tom Connors, PEI offers down-home good living and community values. As an island, it is easy to get an ocean view from many locations, and the fish, lobster, and mussels are as fresh as you can get! Celtic music festivals, small theatre companies, and local artists abound.

From tip to tip, PEI is 224-kilometers (139-miles) long. The island is now joined to the mainland by the Confederation Bridge, but used to be accessible only by ferry. The island has red soil – the stuff that potatoes love to grow in, which is why it is the major crop of the island.

The Indian name for the island is Abegweiht or "land cradled on the waves." Beaches have red or pink sand, and you could spend your life taking photos of the scenery!

With a total population 135,294, PEI is a safe place to raise your family, enjoy summer and winter outdoor activities, and actually know your neighbors – and like them!
