Port Huron, Michigan

The city of Port Huron, the "Maritime Capital of the Great Lakes," is located at the base of the Lake Huron and along the western bank of the St. Clair River, which divides Michigan from Ontario.

Port Huron's nickname stems from its location on the St. Clair, one of the heaviest traveled rivers in the world, and an integral part of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System. Port Huron's Seaway Terminal is a deepwater port, and the city has the largest municipal marina system in Michigan. A bird's-eye view of the ships is available from the 900-foot (274-meter) observation deck at Port Huron's Blue Water Bridge Park.

Port Huron's historic downtown Main Street district is where you'll find the city's many shops, restaurants, and museums. It's also where the city hosts its numerous festivals and events, including all the revelry surrounding Port Huron's annual Bacardi Bayview Mackinac Yacht Race. And Port Huron's flagship, the Highlander Sea, is anchored just off of the downtown area.

Port Huron's system of parks and public beaches offers residents a variety of recreational activities (walking, jogging, picnicking, swimming, boating, wind surfing, fishing – you name it!). For more outdoor options, head a few miles to the north to Lakeport State Park, or a few miles to the south, where you'll find Algonac State Park.

Hockey fans will enjoy the fact that Port Huron has its own team, the Port Huron Flags, of the UHL. The Flags play out of Port Huron's McMorran Place Sports & Entertainment Center, which also acts as a movie theater and a venue for concerts and other live entertainment.
