Home to Brigham Young University (BYU), Provo is your quintessential college town.

Shout yourself hoarse supporting the BYU Cougars – which includes all BYU sports teams such as basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, track & field, etc. – or cheering on the BYU IceCats hockey team at The Peaks Arena. If you're looking for something a little less taxing on the vocal cords, there's the BYU Museum of Art, which exhibits a diverse collection of contemporary and historic pieces; fine art fans will also enjoy the many galleries available on the BYU campus. When you're done taxing your right brain, challenge the left (and creep yourself out) by perusing the insect, amphibian, arthropod, and crustacean collections at the BYU Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum.

Beyond BYU, there is still plenty to do. Outdoor enthusiasts will feel right at home in Provo's surrounding mountain playground. Runners will enjoy the views of Mt. Timpanogos and the lush beauty of the river trail during the annual Provo River Marathon. Skiers can slice through the white stuff at the nearby Alta Ski Area and skiers and hikers alike can get back to nature at Sundance and the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.

If these activities sound as if they require too much energy, you can take in more relaxing fun at the many annual festivals. There's the Pioneer Day Extravaganza in July, where you can enjoy hay rides, a farmers market, an antique car show, and a petting zoo. Or bring a lawn chair and some popcorn for a movie in the park. In the winter, gather with your neighbors and welcome the New Year at the First Night Celebration, which comes complete with a spectacular fireworks show.
