Quebec

Looking for Old World charm combined with New World vibrancy? With beautiful, old architecture and a certain joie de vivre, Quebec is the region of North America that most resembles Europe. Although much is known about Quebec's politics and its mix of French and English languages, it's mostly the province's lifestyle that sets it apart.

Whether you are passionate about food, nightlife, cultural diversity or the outdoors, Quebec has something to offer you. Its two largest cities – Montreal and Quebec – are as distinct from each other as they are from the rest of Canada. Montreal, an island city at the base of the small but picturesque Mont Royal, is known for its relaxed atmosphere, vibrant restaurants, late-night discos and fashion sense. Its older counterpart, Quebec City, stretches out onto the Plains of Abraham, the site of the historic battle between the English and the French that shaped North America as it is known today. Best known for its cobblestone streets and old city, Quebec attracts teems of visitors with its local flair, fine cuisine, and lively music.

Wherever you live in Quebec, you will share one thing in common with other residents of the province: an infatuation with the game of hockey and proximity to the outdoors. It is hardly surprising that a region with 4 seasons as distinct as those of Quebec has a plethora to offer the athletically inclined. The province boasts more than 65 ski resorts, 3,000 kilometers (1864 miles) of cycling trails, and a multitude of parks and waterways.

Quebec's beautiful geography provides a backdrop to many of these activities: in the south, the St. Lawrence River winds itself through many small towns and cities. Further north, mountains, forests, and lakes rise out of the landscape, providing ample opportunity for skiers, hikers and rafters. And in the far north, home to Canada's Inuit and Cree, the vast wilderness still beckons the more adventurously inclined.

Quebecers say Bonjour and they mean it. Whether the snow falls or the sun shines, it's a good day!
