With a population of 80,865, low crime rates and the beautiful natural surroundings of Northern California, most people move to Redding to escape the daily grind of city life. Despite this sleepy reputation, Redding has also been referred to as a manufacturing paradise as well as being nominated as "one of the nation's 20 best places for starting, relocating, or expanding a small business" (Money magazine). Located mid way between Los Angeles and Seattle on Interstate-5, Redding lies in the northern end of the Sacramento Valley in the District of Shasta. With industries that have included gold and copper mining, ranching, farming, and forestry, Redding's character largely comes from the environment. In a similar vein, local activities such as the yearly Rodeo, Shasta District Fair, Old-Time Fiddle Jamboree, and Big Bike Weekend all emphasize a down-home country lifestyle. Approximately 15 miles (24 kilometer) north of Redding is Lake Shasta, home to the second largest dam in the United States. Canoeing, kayaking, and sailing here, as well as on other local lakes and rivers is widely available. Other nearby attractions include Shasta State Historic Park, Paul Bunyan's Forest Camp, McConnell Arboretum, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and Lake Shasta Caverns. At the far southern end of the Cascade Mountain Range (approximately 50 miles outside of Redding), lies the Lassen Volcanic National Park. With sporadic eruptions since 1914, Lassen Peak provides visitors an opportunity to see active geezers, lava pinnacles, bubbling mud, and steaming sulphur pools. Hot springs reputed for their medicinal properties also provide hikers with a nice rest for aching muscles. If you're interested in experiencing an adventurous lifestyle in the Rocky Mountains, Redding may be the place for you. See our 1 Job in Redding, California Websites for this CityGovernment:
