With its 350,000 hand-planted trees, Regina rises from the vast expanse of the fertile grain-growing prairie, like Saskatchewan's own Emerald City of Oz.

Being one of the sunniest cities in Canada, there is a lot to do outdoors, particularly when July and August highs average a very pleasant 26C (79F) – but admittedly, January highs average around -11C (12F). You can paddle, row, and windsurf on Wascana Lake. Or if you feel up to the challenge you can test your paddling skills in the Dragon Boat Festival, which celebrates Asian culture and heritage within the community. Or, if your stomach doesn't do well on water, stay on dry land and cycle, run, and rollerblade on Regina's extensive recreational pathways. If you like CFL football, head out to cheer the green and white at a Roughriders game.

There is also lots of fun to be had at Regina's many festivals. There is Mosaic, a cultural extravaganza of food, drink, and dance; the Regina Folk Festival, which celebrates music and arts; the Regina Children's Festival; and the Canadian Western Agribition, with it's livestock exhibitions, rodeo, and horse shows. Or you can check out the drill displays and cadet bands at the RCMP Training Academy and Centennial Museum. Or trick the kids into learning something at the Saskatchewan Science Centre.
