Nothing says upstate New York better than an undying devotion to sports, and cheering for the local teams is one of the best ways to become part of Rochester's community. For hockey lovers, there's the Rochester Americans, an American Hockey League team. In the summer, the sports scene gets even busier with the Rochester Red Wings AAA baseball team, the Rochester Rhinos soccer team, and the Rattlers lacrosse team.

For kids, Rochester is one big playground. The highlight is the Strong Museum, which features the National Toy Hall of Fame – a kid's dream come true. For pure fun, you can also take them on the roller coasters at Seabreeze Park or on the water slides at Roseland Waterpark. For a more educational afternoon, check out the Rochester Museum & Science Center – the little ones will have no problem spending the day in the museum's planetarium and nature center.

For the grownups, few places can compete with the scenic views offered by the Finger Lakes region to the south of Rochester. And the areas 11 lakes provide the opportunity for tons of water activities, including snorkeling, waterskiing, swimming, and windsurfing. Its unique gorges and waterfalls are the spot for wonderful hiking. And, for more elegant entertainment, you can easily busy yourself with a tour of one of the many local wineries or wine-tasting events. Or travel a few hours and head north of the border to visit Toronto, Ontario.

Back in downtown Rochester, there's plenty more to do. The historic High Falls area is home to beautiful, old industrial buildings that are now being converted into arts centers and lofts. The High Falls Film Festival is quickly becoming a marquee event for the city while the Brown's Race Market has fantastic fine dining and gorgeous views of the Genesee River. It's no wonder that so many people are returning to Rochester's vibrant, beautiful, and affordable downtown area.
