Rocky Mountain House, Alberta

The town of Rocky Mountain House lies 85 kilometers (52 miles) west of Red Deer, and 229 kilometers (142 miles) northwest of Calgary, in western Alberta.

Settlement of the area goes back to 1799, when a fur trading post and base for exploration was established by the North West Company. The community gained village status in 1912. Now, this town "where adventure begins" has a varied economy based on the tourism, agriculture, forestry, oil, and gas industries.

Rocky Mountain House offers residents a full range of community and recreational services.
