Salem is an independent city is located in the Shenandoah Valley of west central Virginia, between the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains, along the Roanoke River. Salem is located in the Roanoke metro area. Europeans first explored the area in the 1670s, and the city received its charter in 1806. Aside from great family events like the Salem Fair, and great amenities in Salem and in neighboring Roanoke, residents have plenty to enjoy when they want to get back to nature. A short drive away can be found many state parks, including Smith Mountain Lake, Claytor Lake, Douthat, and Fairy Stone. And George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are right at Salem's doorstep, as is access to the Appalachian Trail. And if when residents are just looking for a great drive, they should look no further than the Blue Ridge Parkway. See our 19 Jobs in Salem, Virginia Websites for this CityGovernment:
