San Leandro is located on the east side of San Francisco Bay, in Alameda County. The city is located seven miles (11 kilometers) south of Alameda, 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Oakland, and 21 miles (34 kilometers) southeast of San Francisco. San Leandro is known for its Cherry Festival, which was inaugurated in 1909. Community amenities include a 455-berth marina, two golf courses, and 23 parks and recreation facilities. Several regional parks, Lake Chabot Regional Park, Anthony Chabot Regional Park, and Redwood Regional Park are right at the city's eastern doorstep.
