At any time of year, you can be sure that San Rafael's 56,063 residents are out enjoying the fabulous weather and one of the local hot spots. Maybe they're at the Downtown Farmer's Market or outside of the city enjoying the famous Sonoma and Napa wine regions north of the city. Or they could be exploring China Camp State Park, with its stunning vistas of San Francisco Bay, long stretches of beach, and winding riding trails. Or perhaps they're enjoying downtown San Francisco, which is just 19 miles (30 kilometers) south of San Rafael.

When the locals are looking for a dose of culture, they head to the Marin Shakespeare Company to see a play, or they take in a performance by the energetic and entertaining Marin Symphony. Alternatively, they could be downtown catching an open-air (and free) movie at the Moonlight Series on the Plaza. And once a year everybody comes together for their favorite event, the Marin County Fair, which is held at the lovely Marin County Civic Center. Dedicated to famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who was prolific in the area, the fair features world-class exhibits and fun shows along with music from around the wold, a film festival, and a carnival with rides.

With a great community vibe, tons of events, and plenty of natural gems to invigorate body and mind body, San Rafael is a great move.
