When you say the name Seattle, most people invariably think of coffee, grunge bands, or the Space Needle, the symbol of the 1962 World's Fair. But there is so much more to enjoy in Seattle than coffee, music, and a big pointy stick! After all, you're using a computer now – how about the Seattle fixture, computer giant Microsoft? (Well, yes, technically it's in the suburb of Redmond.) Nestled between the shores of Puget Sound and Lake Washington and flanked by the spectacular Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, Seattle offers an abundance of outdoor goodness to nature lovers. You can walk, golf, run, bike, or hike in it's 6,100 acres (2,468 hectares) of parkland. Or, you can kayak, canoe, sail, fish, scuba dive, or simply enjoy a ferry ride in the surrounding waters. Or, if you really want a challenge, you can climb nearby Mount Rainier. It's no wonder that Men's Fitness Magazine (2003) ranked Seattle as America's #2 Fittest City in the US (Honolulu is #1)! After a hard day of play, you're bound to be hungry, and there's no better place to eat than Seattle! Grab a famous Seattle coffee (or espresso or latte, if you prefer) and head to the Chinatown/International District, where you can feed your face with Asian cuisine, or head to the Pike Place Market, for more local fare. Or, if you'd rather your seafood be served to you, there are more than 2,200 restaurants to choose from. But Seattle isn't just for athletes (whether the outdoorsy types or the pros with the Mariners, Supersonics, or Seahawks) and foodies. For the more artistically inclined, there is the Seattle Opera, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the internationally acclaimed Seattle Symphony. Seattle boasts more than 190 galleries and 14 museums, including the Seattle Art Museum and the Experience Music Project rock and roll museum. To increase your options even further, you could head to the south end of the "Sea-Tac" metro area, and visit Tacoma, just over 30 miles (48 kilometers) away. Seattle offers something for everyone!
