Shakopee, Minnesota

Shakopee is located in southern Minnesota, 24 miles (39 kilometers) southwest of Minneapolis and 28 miles (45 kilometers) southwest of Saint Paul. It is the county seat of Scott County, and home to 20,568 people.

To learn about Minnesota life in the 1800s, visit the Historic Murphy's Landing. This living history museum is situated in the Minnesota River Valley, and offers more than 40 historic buildings, costumed re-enactors, and fascinating demonstrations. Also be sure to visit the Scott County Historical Society and its Stans Museum, where you'll find a variety of exhibits and research materials.

Shakopee is also home to many modern attractions. For some family fun, take the kids to Valleyfair!, which offers 75 exhilarating rides and attractions, and is the largest theme park in the Upper Midwest. A great summertime destination is the Shakopee Aquatic Park, which has sandy-bottomed pools, a beach, gigantic waterslides. Looking for some outdoor recreation? You can tee off at the Stonebrooke Golf Club, explore the Minnesota River Valley State Trail, or visit the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in nearby Chaska. Covering more than 1,000 acres (405 hectares), this is the largest public garden in the Midwest, and features 32 display gardens and 48 plant collections.
