A mere 20 minutes south of the nation's capital, you'll find the city of Springfield, Virginia. Another fun thing for the kids is September's International Children's Festival, which allows "children from all over the world [to] continue to share their cultural traditions through the international language of the arts, creating an atmosphere of friendship, trust and harmony."

And we would be remiss if we neglected to mention February's Chocolate Lovers Festival in nearby Fairfax. The festival involves chocolate arts, crafts, tastings … need we say more?
