Teaneck, New Jersey

Teaneck, New Jersey, is a township of 39,260 in Bergen County. It is located two miles (three kilometers) northeast of Hackensack, 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of Jersey City, and 17 miles (27 kilometers) northwest of New York City. The community is sandwiched between the Hackensack River and the Palisades of the Hudson River.

This historic community has witnessed many significant events, including the withdrawal of George Washington's Colonial forces from Fort Lee in 1776. Some houses from the Colonial era and the days of the Revolutionary War survive to this day, and seven local homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The town's Recreation Department offers classes and programs for toddlers, youths, seniors, and everyone in-between. Residents have access to a community center, swimming pool, tennis courts, and the 18-hole Overpeck Country Golf Course. During the summer, the whole family can enjoy movie screenings and band concerts at Votee Park. Teaneck New Theatre presents great plays at St. Mark's Church in Teaneck and the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center in Hackensack. Cedar Lane Cinema is Teaneck's only theater, and offers both movie screenings and live performances. Teaneck itself has guest-starred in many films, including The Family Man and You've Got Mail.
