Trenton, Ontario

Trenton is one of the four communities (also including Sidney, Murray, and Frankford) that were amalgamated in 1998 to form the City of Quinte West, which has a combined population of 41,409.

With its position as the gateway to the recreation-rich Trent-Severn Waterway, it's no surprise that Trenton has been dubbed the "Playground of Southern Ontario." Trenton is a water-lover's paradise, being home to numerous marinas, piers, and boat launches. Some of the best walleye fishing in North America can be found in the Trenton area, and anglers definitely won't want to miss the Walleye World catch and release competition each May.

Would you rather keep your feet on solid ground? There's plenty to see and do in Trenton. Stroll its picturesque streets, and at least part of the beautiful waterfront recreational trail. (Why only part? It stretches all the way to Hamilton, at the eastern tip of Lake Ontario, some 240 kilometers (150 miles) away, and you'll be late for work!) Take in a performance at the Westben Arts Festival Theatre. The 400-seat venue is a converted barn that opens into a field for additional seating, mixing hot shows with a cool rustic feel.

History buffs – and those who simply like taking a relaxing drive, with opportunities for sightseeing and taking in nice scenery – can cruise along the the Loyalist Parkway, a portion of Highway 33, which runs between Trenton and Kingston, following the course of United Empire Loyalist settlements which followed the American Revolution. The Parkway has over 40 listed archaeological sites and at least 125 heritage buildings.

If you've got your eye on the sky, then you're sure to see the planes coming in and out of CFB Trenton, Canada's largest air force base. A must for airplane enthusiasts is the RCAF Memorial Museum, with its back lot full of planes, and its exhibits honoring some of the greatest pilots Canada has ever put in the air.

Whether you're strolling through town, looking for a prize catch, or gazing in awe at the planes, you'll have a wonderful time at home in Trenton.
