Tucson, a city of approximately 486,699 inhabitants, is located in the Sonoran Desert in southeastern Arizona. The nearby Santa Catalina Mountains are 9,100 feet (2,773 meters) above sea level and dominate the skyline, which is almost always clear – Tucson is sunny 360 days a year! The great weather also makes Tucson and its surrounding area one of the world's premiere golf destinations. There are 21 18-hole courses in the vicinity as well as many smaller courses. Some of the most accessible and surprisingly affordable places to golf are the five courses in the mountains and deserts immediately surrounding the city run by Tucson City Golf. You can take yourself or your kids out to one of the many area parks, including Saguaro National Park. Or enjoy a leisurely day at the Reid Park Zoo. Or you can even take them for a fun a day trip to famous Tombstone. A great weekend trip for friends and family is a drive up to the Grand Canyon in the northeast of the state. And, gardeners will love the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Believe it or not, you can head out to nearby Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley for skiing (usually from mid-December to early April) and sightseeing the rest of the year. But Tucson is even more than the great outdoors, it is a thriving metropolitan area with a small-town feel. If you want to stay out of the sun for awhile, spend time at one of the city's varied sites: the Tucson Museum of Art, Biosphere 2, the International Wildlife Museum – or even try your luck at one of the casinos, such as Casino of the Sun or Desert Diamond Casinos. And for the more cultural among us, there are several performing groups, including the Arizona Opera, the Arizona Theater Company, with venues in Phoenix and Tucson, and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. As a bright and modern metropolis surrounded by natural beauty, Tucson is a premiere destination for professionals wishing to relocate.
