Walla Walla, Washington

Walla Walla is flooded – with wine! The city is located in Washington's Walla Walla Valley, and features more than 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of vineyards occupied by 35 unique wineries producing all types of wine, from a Barbera to the Zinfandel. The Walla Walla Wine Valley Alliance organized in 2001 in partnership between all of the wineries, is committed to promoting and preserving the valley's excellence, both in its wines and natural beauty. Throughout the year the Alliance hosts various events, such as the Balloon Stampede Weekend, a sampling of the year's new vintage accompanied by colorful hot air balloons.

And where there are vineyards there are gorgeous vistas to be had. Protected by the enchanting Blue Mountains, the Walla Walla valley offers over 300 sunny days of undisturbed beauty per year. Any one of those sunny days you could hike through its enchanting forests, take a dip in its placid lakes, cycle through its many trails, hit up a few links, or try to spot all of the valley's species of birds (there are more than 300). If all the wine tasting has given you a shot of adrenaline, Walla Walla's pro-style BMX Track and Skateboard Park should subdue you. Not surprisingly, the region is recognized as a unique American Vitcultural Area. And you have nearby access to the great outdoors at places like Umatilla National Forest.

Those who prefer their grapes fresh will be delighted by the downtown Farmers' Market. A favorite local destination, The market is a great place to find local produce and products, such as the world famous Walla Walla sweet onion. In the summer the market is also hosts weekly festivals, attacking performers from near and afar.

The city's downtown is also not to be missed. Packed with historical architecture, unique shops, galleries, cafés, and such family friendly attractions as the Children's Museum of Walla Walla, it's no wonder that Sunset magazine honored the city with the "Best Main Street of the West."

After a long day of exploring, drinking, and eating onions you could relax at the Walla Walla Symphony.

It seems there is no shortage of attractions in and around Walla Walla!
