The sun is always shining in Wichita Falls. Set in the northeast corner of the Panhandle/Plains region of Texas, temperatures can climb well into the 100s. Fortunately there is plenty of fun in the sun to be had. Smack in the city center, and along the Wichita River is the 178-acre (72-hectare) Lucy Park. While the kids feed the ducks at the pond, you can take an energetic hike along one of its several trails, or, more enjoyably, feed yourself at one of the picnic tables. Within the park you will also find River Bend Nature Center, a non-profit organization committed to preserving the natural beauty of Texas. Those who went to find out what makes parks like Lucy Park so unique should take go on one Center's many guided nature trails, such as Butterfly Days, an exploration of the amazing world butterflies; or get up close and personal with the creatures of water in the Down by the Pond tour. The Center even runs a summer camp. Those bringing a model airplane with them when they move to Wichita Falls need not worry; they can land them on the landing strip at the nearby Wichita Park. Afterwards, why not hit a few links in the park's 18-hole golf course, you've earned it – landing is the hardest part of flying. Those coming for the legendary Wichita Falls are about 120 years too late – they were destroyed in the flood of 1886 – but a new attraction has taken its place. In 1887, a 54-foot (16-meter) waterfall was constructed upstream. It may not be the original, but if you don't say anything to your out-of-town guests, how will anyone even know? If you feel like 100 degrees isn't hot enough for you, or would just like to get a bit sweatier, why not participate in the annual Hotter'N Hell Hundred. A popular tradition since 1982, the Hotter'N Hell Hundred is a 100-mile bicycle ride in the heat. After you've worked up a sweat, cool off at the Castaway Cove Waterpark, with its waterslides, lazy rivers, and wave pool, you'll forget all about the sun. When it's finally time to go inside, why not go inside with some style? You can step in to the gorgeous Kemp Center for the Arts and be swept away by the lovely sounds of Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra. Or catch a show at the recently resorted Wichita Theatre & Opera House. But Wichita Falls is not all sunshine and lollypops. It has a rigorous, world renowned education system right in its own backyard. The public school system participates in the International Baccalaureate, offering programs at the Primary Years (3-12), Middle Years (11-16), and Diploma (16-18) levels. All in all, it's very likely you'll fall for Wichita Falls. See our 6 Jobs in Wichita Falls, Texas Websites for this CityGovernment:
