Here is Part 3 of some amazing, surprising, and simply bizarre medical trivia, courtesy of Guinness World Records. • Two families hold the
record for the most surviving children from a single
birth. In 1997, Bobbie McCaughey of the US gave birth
to seven children (four boys and three girls), who
were conceived by in vitro fertilization. In 1998,
Hasna Mohammed Humair of Saudi Arabia also gave birth
to four boys and three girls. Her unexpected pregnancy
was the result of a fertility drug prescribed to
regulate her menstrual cycles.
• The shortest interval
between two births by one woman is 208 days. The
record was set by Jayne Bleackley of New Zealand
after she gave birth to a son on September 3, 1999,
then a daughter on March 30, 2000. The longest interval
between births is 41 years 185 days: Elizabeth Ann
Buttle of Wales gave birth to a daughter in 1956,
then a son in 1997 at the age of 60.
• Louis Brown, the world's
first test-tube baby, was born on July 25, 1978 in
the UK. Her sister Natalie was also conceived by
IVF, and later became one of the first test-tube
babies to conceive a child naturally. * * * * * Check back for the other three parts in our Guinness World Records series: Discuss This ArticleHave something you'd like to say?
