Position Summary Overview: Ensure the availability of tissue resources to further cancer and hematology research; provide centralized and streamlined tissue collection, processing and storage; maximize the capture of potentially useful tissues and related information. Responsibilities: Identify, receive, process and analyze specimens; review clinic and surgical schedules to identify possible donors; receive or collect a variety of specimens (fixed and frozen human and mouse tissues); process specimens; train others in the practice of receiving, preparing and analyzing specimens; participate in an on-call rotation. Perform tissue culture and molecular biological techniques; perform DNA/RNA extractions from fixed and frozen tissues; establish primary tissue cultures and maintain cultured cells. Maintain database; generate RTSS identifiers for specimens to be distributed or stored; input patient data and maintain database; generate reports and tables; generate transmittal forms and shipping documentation as required by protocol. Participate in research collaboration. Provide quality control/assurance activities and inventory maintenance. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of cell cycle, tissue culture principles, freezing cultures, processing and troubleshooting required. Must also be familiar with standard molecular methods such as DNA/RNA extraction and labeling methods. Experience with other molecular methods helpful. The ability to use various pieces of laboratory equipment including incubators, centrifuges and cryostat required. Experience with various molecular biology techniques is desired. PC experience and visual presentation skills needed. Good communication skills to interpret reports and communicate with investigators. Education and Experience: Bachelor´s degree in biomedical sciences and seven (7) years of research experience in pathology, cell biology or molecular biology; OR Master´s degree in biomedical sciences and three (3) years of research experience in pathology, cell biology or molecular biology.

This hand-on position requires design and performs test experiments on complex/sophisticated equipments as well as prepares internal and external reports with technical recommendations related to the projects. The individual must be highly motivated able to plan, control, coordinate, direct, track, and execute all R&D projects.RequirementsThis position requires a candidate with a Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering or Pharmaceutical chemistry with 2+ year experience. Working knowledge in hematology, surface chemistry, ligand immobilization and drug delivery to the biotechnology research projects. Postdoctoral research is desirable. The individual will work on projects for hemodialysis and other novel biotechnologies related to the biomedical industry.
