The Department of Clinical Trials within The Methodist Research Institute located in the Texas Medical Center, Houston, Texas, seeks a full-time Clinical Research Nurse.The Clinical Research Nurse coordinates complex research projects that may involve sites and/or the supervision of research activities; implements research protocols, including screening and enrolling subjects, obtaining blood and other specimens for tests and cultures, administering medications and maintaining pertinent patient records. He/she will work with Principal Investigators and team of researchers and demonstrate knowledge of nursing with clinical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to manage care of high acuity patients. The candidate will obtain, record, validate, and interpret data to achieve the goals of the research project; conduct studies according to protocol and complete case report forms. Clinical Research Nurse applicants educate patients in significant aspects of study, ensures that clinical studies are conducted in accordance with FDA guidelines and other regulatory agencies. The person serve as liaison between physicians, patients, staff and sponsors; may assist in developing the clinical trial agreement, and may provide guidance and work direction to entry level research nurses.REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with a current Texas license. Preferred is, (1) a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience, and (2) a research certification.

Assists in planned growth of Research function and recruitment of study participantsEssential FunctionsThe essential functions are the primary dimensions for performance review.1. Organize the research activities and establish Research Office for the Department to manage all Research operations. 2. Develop and maintain of a system of organized and easily retrievable regulatory and organizational documentation for all studies3. Make budget recommendations for safe and effective staffing utilization. Manage study budgets and ensure timely vendor billing4. Collaborate with Division Chiefs and Department Chairman to prioritize potential research opportunities and ensure appropriate resource allocation5. Supervise research staff and assure research trials are conducted according to protocols. Conducts and documents monthly meetings between the Principal Investigators and Coordinators of each trail to discuss enrollment problems, review of patient adverse events, IRB problems, upcoming trails, etc. Conducts weekly group coordinator meetings to discuss current studies, any problems that a coordinator may be having such as screening, enrollment, physician support, and workload.
