Serve as a member of a close-knit research team conducting inpatient and outpatient clinical trials investigating the efficacy of combining pharmacotherapies and behavioral interventions for the treatment of opioid, cocaine, and tobacco addiction.
General Purpose: * Serve as a member of a close-knit research team conducting inpatient and outpatient clinical trials investigating the efficacy of combining pharmacotherapies and behavioral interventions for the treatment of opioid, cocaine, and tobacco addiction. * Under the supervision of the Principle Investigator (PI) and with substantial use of discretion and independent professional judgment, provide services to clients in treatment research studies. These studies will be conducted at the West Haven VA Hospital. * Exercise discretion and independent judgment in performance of job duties.Position Description: - Dispense medication, supervise control of medication and administer medication for clients enrolled in research protocols.- Perform history physical examinations. - Provide research nursing support across a variety of studies, both inpatient and outpatient. This may include the taking of vitals, ordering blood and urine toxicology, the monitoring of patients during drug administration studies, and the accurate collection of relevant nursing data. - Review diagnostic tests (e.g. blood work, EKGs, and blood pressure) to help assess clients. - Participate in clinical, diagnostic, and evaluatory conferences, providing preliminary or follow-up data. Document patient´s symptoms and follow-up in timely manner.- Schedule clients for clinical and laboratory procedures.- Compile weekly dispensing materials for pharmacist and physician. Develop a weekly medication-dispensing roster. Perform data entry on missed medication, dose changes, etc.- Ensure that nursing and clinical records are current and are maintained according to state and federal guidelines as well as guidelines of the research protocol.- Provide direct client services, including administration of study medications and research instruments. - Attend weekly research and supervision meetings. May participate in such activities as orientation and training for research assistants or other research staff. Attend appropriate clinical meetings, seminars and in-service training programs.- Responsible for the protection of patients rights and confidentiality, as prescribed by funding, regulatory, and treatment program policies.- May serve as backup for other research and staff nurses to cover vacation, sick time, etc. This may include early morning hours.- May be asked to serve as part of a regular Saturday rotation for dispensing medications.- Perform other related duties as required.Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science in Nursing and six years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- APRN or PA licensure in the State of Connecticut.- At least one year of related experience, particularly in the area of mental health nursing.- Must successfully complete the VA credentialing.- Preferred: Previous experience working with substance abusing individuals and the dispensing of Methadone.Yale University offers exciting opportunities for achievement and growth in New Haven, Connecticut.
