The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Senior Scientific Director for the Defense and Veteran´s Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) located at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA.
DVBIC is multi-site medical care, clinical research and education center. It is a unique collaboration of the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veteran´s Affairs (VA) health care system, and civilian partners. The mission of DVBIC is to serve active duty military, their dependents and veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) through state-of-the-art medical care, innovative clinical research initiatives and educational programs. DVBIC is primarily responsible for support of clinical operations in the DVBIC network which includes 10 military treatment facilities, 5 veteran hospitals and 2 community re- entry civilian programs. In addition, the office has visibility and contributes to the expertise of DoD level related clinical activity related to traumatic brain injury.Responsibilities: 1. Direct and provide oversight of clinical, research and education related activities at both DVBIC sites.2. Oversee the design and execution of clinical research initiatives and their compliance with all regulatory bodies.3. Establish and maintain appropriate Clinical, Research and Education staff to ensure that patient care and projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the agreed quality standard.4. Manage development and performance reviews for clinical, research and education staff.5. Support TBI research through collaboration with research professionals locally and nationally e.g. Veteran´s Administration, Navy Health Research Center, UCSD.6. Ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing with DVBIC research colleagues and scientific team.7. Annually, prepare and publish research manuscripts in the area of TBI and present papers at scientific meetings.8. Serve as a liaison between DVBIC nationally, locally and the Command at both sites.9. Provide educational presentations on TBI regularly to the appropriate audiences10. In collaboration with Program Manager, oversees program activities at DVBIC NMCSD & CPCC e.g. performance improvement strategies, annual budget, etc.11. Other projects as needed.Required Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities:Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels to foster collaborative research activities. Minimum Education/Training Requirements:- Neuropsychologist (PhD) or MD with relevant postgraduate clinical training. - Board eligibility/certification in neuropsychology, neurology or related field required.Minimum Experience: - 7-10 years experience as Neuropsychologist (PhD) or MD working with patients with traumatic brain injury required.- 5-10 years experience in research as demonstrated by publications, presentations required. - 5-10 years management experience required. - Previous experience in a military setting strongly preferred.Physical Capabilities: - Requires sitting for long periods as well as some walking, standing, bending and carrying up to 25 pounds. - The incumbent may encounter work with patients who are confused, agitated and/or combative.Required Licenses. Certification or Registration: Must meet the requirements for Medical/Allied staff appointment and requirements for the granting of clinical privileges.Work Environment: - The work environment is that of an outpatient Clinic in a military setting. - Some travel is required locally and nationally.
