Seeking two Postdoctoral Fellows to support the Automated Biodosimetry, Systems Biology and Bioinformatics Initiative for proteomics and drug development program at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFFRI) in Bethesda, MD.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking two Postdoctoral Fellows to support the Automated Biodosimetry, Systems Biology and Bioinformatics Initiative for proteomics and drug development program at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFFRI) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides administrative and management support to AFFRI. The AFRRI mission is to preserve the health and performance of U.S. military personnel and to protect humankind through research that advances understanding of the effects of ionizing radiation. To these ends, the institute collaborates with other government facilities, academic institutions, and civilian laboratories in the United States and other countries to research the biological effects of ionizing radiation.Responsibilities:1. Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.2. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.3. Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve specialized procedures such as DNA cloning and sequencing, Southern blotting, molecular analysis of specific RNA transcripts by quantitative RT-PCR or Northern analysis, animal injections, bleedings and immunizations.4. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.5. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.6. Assists with training laboratory staff as needed.7. Maintains cleanliness of laboratory areas.8. Place multiple physician office telephone calls or visits in an effort to obtain outside treatment information to complete the abstract. Assist in preparation of data and reports generated by the Cancer Registry. Maintains a basic understanding of the work flow in the Health Information Management Department. Informs supervisor of backlogs. Basic Qualifications: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or individual with equal qualifications possessing extensive knowledge of medical terminology, oncology terminology, anatomy, and physiology, diagnostic procedures, disease processes, staging and treatment. Basic knowledge of ICD-O or comparable coding system. Computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows operating system.
